UW and Wyoming SBDC Network to Host Cost Proposal Workshop May 23

Small-business owners can learn how to prepare Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) cost proposals during a virtual workshop Thursday, May 23.

Jim Greenwood will lead the discussion during a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network webinar titled “Making Sense of Cost Proposals and Government Accounting” from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. To register, go here. Registration is free.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by UW with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Greenwood will provide information about how to prepare SBIR/STTR cost proposals and how to keep records to the government’s satisfaction when small-business owners win an SBIR or STTR award.

The workshop will cover basic government accounting concepts; the Federal Acquisition Regulation and its importance; formats of SBIR/STTR cost proposals for different agencies; keeping track of expenses; cost proposal formats for various SBIR agencies; and audits of SBIR projects. Additionally, attendees will participate in preparing an example cost proposal and will learn how to calculate a reasonable indirect cost rate.

Greenwood, co-owner of Greenwood Consulting Group Inc., is a nationally recognized trainer and proposal reviewer for the SBIR and STTR programs. He has taught SBIR/STTR workshops in 48 states, plus Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., offering training through local and regional economic development groups, universities, federal laboratories, SBDCs and Manufacturing Extension Partnerships.
