Rest and socialize in your new home with cozy bedrooms, inviting gathering areas, and plenty of space to hang out with friends. Living on campus means living among friends, being close to classes, getting access to helpful resources, and feeling connected.
To help maximize their potential, the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees have established a first-year live-in policy requiring newly admitted students to live in the residence halls during their first academic year on campus.
Packages and mail will be delivered to the Residence Halls on weekdays and Saturdays, usually in the late afternoon. To ensure that you receive your packages, they must be addressed as follows:
FIRST NAME - LAST NAME
MAILBOX NUMBER, HALL NAME
LARAMIE, WY 82071
Please note that the words "Post Office," or "P.O.," or "Box" are NOT part of your address. If written, this may delay your mail, or it could be sent back to the sender.
Also, note that the mailbox number is NOT your room number but a designated mailbox number. You will receive this mailbox number in the letter containing your room information. Contact the Housing, Dining, and Residence Life main office at 307-766-3175 or if you do not have this number.
No, there is not a deadline for applications. The application opens in mid to late January and will continue up to and past the start of classes. Applications received later in the summer may have fewer options but are still guaranteed assignment for all new, first-year students.
Think: less is more, with the understanding that you are sharing space with others. You won’t need your skis or snowboard at the beginning of the semester and you don’t have to bring all of your belongings at once. Breaks are a great time to switch belongings based on the time of year.
Once you are assigned your roommate, connect/coordinate with one another. Determine who will bring the larger items so you don’t end up with two of everything (i.e. TV, microfridge, futon, etc.). Printers are one item that may not be necessary in rooms, since there are many places on campus where you can print.
Open-coil heaters are not allowed, so don’t bring things like space heaters, toasters, toaster ovens and hot plates, as they are fire hazards.
Hosting guests is a great way to build community and memories when living on campus. Guests can also be a sore spot for roommate difficulties if there is not good communication and shared understanding for what each of you expect. It is also important to note that those expectations can change. It is important to talk with each other and respect boundaries with community staff available to assist. For more information about the residence hall guest policies, review our Policies & Procedures.
Every room comes with the following (one per student):
Bed (can be single, lofted up to 60", or bunked)
Mattress (twin extra-long)
Desk and chair
Dresser
Wardrobe/Closet
Vanity with sink
Trash can
We recommend students bring bedding (twin XL), any personal items, clothing, and study tools. Talk with your roommate about who will bring larger items, such as a microwave, fridge and TV, to make sure you are utilizing the space efficiently.
