Description:
The Golden Boot Competition invites campus and community members to show off their
Poke Pride through various events, including space decoration, parade float competition,
the Horseshoe Hunt, Homecoming Sing, and community service. Winners receive a $100
prize for their organization and can donate an additional $100 to a UW department
or organization of their choice.
Event Details
Homecoming Space Decoration:
Date/Time: Submissions due by Monday, Sept. 23 at 5:00pm
Location: A space of the team's choosing (on-campus or in the community)
Description: A traditional fixture of the Golden Boot, teams must decorate a space of their choosing
in accordance with this year’s Homecoming theme while also incorporating UW Spirit.
Picture and video submissions for this event are due to uwalumni@uwyo.edu by Monday,
Sept. 23 at 5pm and it is encouraged that spaces remain decorated for the full week
of Homecoming.
Homecoming Parade:
Date/Time: Saturday, Sept. 28th, morning
Location: 14th & Grand to 2nd & Ivinson (return to Ivinson & 9th)
Description: Teams can participate with a float, walking group, or other entry, judged on construction,
use of theme, appearance, and originality.
Horseshoe Hunt:
Date/Time: Daily during Homecoming week
Location: University of Wyoming campus
Description: The Associated Students of the University of Wyoming Student Government (ASUW) will
be conducting their annual Horseshoe Hunt, in which ASUW will hide two horseshoes
per day around campus. Hints to find the horseshoes can be found on ASUW’s social
media, specifically Instagram. If a team finds a horseshoe, they should bring it back
to the ASUW office in the basement of the Wyoming Union and let whoever collects the
horseshoe know that they are competing in the Golden Boot to receive 5 points per
horseshoe (maximum of 3). Businesses and community teams are welcome to participate
in this event, but we do ask that the Horseshoe Hunt specific prizes are reserved
for students only.
Homecoming Sing:
Date/Time: Rehearsal on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 5:00pm, Performances on Wednesday, Sept. 25th at
5:00 PM
Location: A&S Auditorium, University of Wyoming
Description: The UW Mortar Board will be hosting the Homecoming Sing competition this
year. Create a song and dance customizing lyrics to show off your team’s Poke Pride
and celebrate the theme: Ragtime Reunion. Teams competing will participate in a dress
rehearsal Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 5:00 pm in the A&S auditorium. Music needs to be saved
as an MP3 file and uploaded to a USB jump drive. Actual performances will take place
on Wednesday, Sept. 25th in the A&S auditorium. Teams should arrive at 5:00 pm to
check in. Performances are judged by four judges based on creativity, quality of vocals,
accuracy, and overall performance.
Community Service:
Date/Time: Submissions due by Monday, Sept. 23 at 5:00pm, events to run during Homecoming week
Location: UW campus or Laramie community
Description: Teams will plan and execute a community service event focused on the
UW campus and/or Laramie community. These events can be as simple or complex as teams
would like. However, a good faith effort, to include marketing and set up, is required.
Teams must submit their events in advance to the UWAA by Monday, Sept. 23 at 5pm and
it is encouraged that events run for the full week of Homecoming. All teams will be
awarded 50 points for participation in this event.
Tribute to Steamboat Wheelbarrow Race:
Date/Time: Thursday, Sept. 26th, check-in by 5:15pm
Location: Hansen Arena, University of Wyoming
Description: Teams of two compete in a wheelbarrow race during the Tribute to Steamboat
event.
Tribute to Steamboat Calf Scramble:
Date/Time: Thursday, Sept. 26th, check-in by 5:15pm
Location: Hansen Arena, University of Wyoming
Description: Teams of three compete in a calf scramble, removing ribbons from calf
tails to complete the race.
