Assessment for Student Learning

Assessment for student learning opens the door for meaningful engagement into what, how and why learning occurs for all learners; this in turn, informs practice, pedagogy and curricula to better support all students.

 

The University of Wyoming is committed to the continuous improvement of student academic achievement. To ensure student learning is taking place, a wide range of assessment activities are used to assist the UW community in making data-driven decisions on how to best build an environment where students can thrive. Utilizing the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment Transparency Framework, this website provides an overview of UW assessment activities and results.

Welcome to the 2023/2024 Academic Year- we appreciate the enthusiasm and intentionality our campus colleagues bring to the work of assessment for student learning. This website is a tool for engagement with this process and a way to access support in the area of assessment. Thank you and we look forward to the work ahead.

University of Wyoming Program Assessment Reports (2024)

Thank you to our undergraduate and graduate programs for participating in the University of Wyoming 2024 Program Assessment Reports. 

Programs that have not yet submitted reports are encouraged to submit survey responses and program curriculum maps by October 4, 2024 - the survey is currently open for submissions. If programs require additional time, please contact Heather (hwebb1@uwyo.edu) to schedule a time to submit reports.

Reports are submitted via a Qualtrics Survey - survey links have been provided to University Assessment Coordinators and Department Heads as of May 29, 2024.

Assessment - An Iterative Process

Thank you for your continued commitment to assessment for student learning and your patience as we learn from experiences and make adjustments for future success.  Our office has learned over the last year about adjustments we must make for future success (focused on transparency and support) and is inspired by the excellent assessment for student learning work happening at all levels across the University of Wyoming.  

As we move forward to advance our UW Institutional Assessment Plan for Student Learning we celebrate your current and future work and are grateful for the opportunity to support advancements in teaching and student learning at the University of Wyoming.

The UW  Assessment Plan Working Group and Assessment Coordinators are pleased to share the UW Institutional Assessment Plan for Student Learning with the campus community. As we work together through the process of sharing this plan with the UW community, we appreciate your feedback and questions. 

Transparency and support are integral to the success of this plan and the assessment work for student learning at UW. We invite you to join us in this work and dialogues around assessment for student learning.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) at UW

The University of Wyoming's Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) initiative provides a platform for the academic community to contribute to scholarship, creative work, and discovery of knowledge in the realm of teaching and learning. SoTL incorporates research methodologies to conduct a systematic and evidence-based inquiry, contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning. Engaging in SoTL projects allows faculty and educators to:

  • Embrace and experiment with new quality teaching approaches and strategies promoting a culture of continuous advancement in teaching practices.
  • Explore and reflect on their teaching methods and students' learning experiences to better meet the diverse learning needs within the academic community.
  • Implement collaborative reflections in the coursework to affect pedagogy and enhance the overall learning experience for students.
  • Empower a collaborative action and inquiry-based research spirit among faculty and educators through the processes and reflection and assessment.
