"Heart in Hand" follows Josh, a medical student whose fascination with healing turns to obsession when he encounters Sarah, an addict who needs more healing than medicine alone can provide. Josh's determination to save this young woman takes him down a dangerous road that threatens to destroy everything for which he has worked, while menacing ghosts from Sarah's past aim to violently deny her the salvation that she so desperately needs. "Heart in Hand" maneuvers us in unexpected directions through the complicated web of the health care system and in the end leaves us asking if anyone's hands are truly clean.
The research for this play included multiple interviews in Emergency Rooms and a summer's worth of volunteer work at a Free Clinic in Sheridan.
