CHASING PIRANDELLO
A Comedy By William Missouri Downs

CHASING PIRANDELLO
is a comedy is about an over the hill sitcom story editor who tries
to keep his sanity by writing a play about his dying father. The catch is that
he can't escape from his past as a Hollywood formula hack. He quickly discovers
that everyone's notes, comments and criticisms do not apply to his play but to
his life. Soon the playwright loses total control of his life as others'
opinions and comments on his play cause his life to become a sitcom, a drama,
even a Broadway musical. The line between reality and his writing totally
collapses. The play finally opens and fails. Our playwright runs from the
theatre, flips his car on the 101 freeway, and "wakes up" in a coma,
a land where Shakespeare and Pirandello come to teach him how to break free
from Hollywood formula. CHASING PIRANDELLO is an homage to Pirandello's SIX
CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR.
