Departmental Awards


In addition to our depatmental scholarships, UW Theatre and Dance has several special awards available to recognize outstanding students in acting performance, dance performance, and technical/design performance.

These awards are given annually and are presented to students during the annual DRAM PROM at the end of the academic year. Each award recipient is presented a monetary gift and certificate and has his or her name inscribed on one of our student awards plaques.

The Jack and Victoria Oakie Charitable Foundation provides several awards to our students, including:

  • Jack Oakie Comedy Award (Best Comic Performance)             
  • Jack Oakie Memorial Award (Excellence in Theatre or Film Comedy, Acting. Male)
  • Victoria Horne Oakie "Myrtle Mae" Award (Excellence in Theatre/Film Acting, Female)
  • Jack Oakie Memorial Award (Excellence in Theatre/Film Any Category)
  • Jack Oakie "It's All in Fun" Award (Excellence in Theatre/Film Any Category)

The Oakie awards are named for and honor Jack Oakie, one of the important comic actors in early film.
