The Wyoming Technology Business Center (WTBC) is a new business development program that focuses on high growth oriented companies with an emphasis on technology at the University of Wyoming. The WTBC was created for the development of a technology-oriented business incubator in a new 30,000 sq. ft. facility on the campus of the University of Wyoming. Business incubators have been proven to help small businesses succeed in the crucial first stages. Expert guidance, combined with shared resources, helps facilitate an ideal setting. Nearly 60% of all start-ups fail within the first five years; those that go through a business incubator-type program have an increased success rate of 85%.
The business incubator provides space, access to shared services and business and management advice for early stage high growth companies. The business and management advice consists of one-on-one counseling provided by the WTBC staff and the creation of a five person business advisory committee for each client. This business advisory committee is comprised of successful business leaders from the business community. The committee meets with the client on a quarterly basis. The program is designed to help the clients grow their companies larger and faster than they would otherwise, and to increase the ability of the entrepreneurs to grow and manage their own businesses.
The not-for-profit incubator is located in Laramie at 1938 Harney Street in Laramie, WY, existing as a part of the University of Wyoming. This affiliation allows the WTBC to facilitate access to the university’s research capabilities. It also seeks to keep college graduates in the area by creating new professional opportunities. It houses offices, wet labs and manufacturing space. The WTBC has a state-of-the-art data center with robust internet connections and provides high-capacity, fully redundant fiber-optic broadband services.
