"I think that the BQA program, as it has evolved over the last 15 years,
is one of the most important things that we have done in the beef industry. The degree of progress
has been astonishing."

| BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) is a national program that
focuses on beef production management issues and decisions,
helping producers prevent problems that may be affecting the
quality of the beef that they produce. The goal of the national
BQA program is to maximize consumer confidence and acceptance
of beef. By guaranteeing the consumer that they are buying
a wholesome product that has been produced with sound management
practices, we will build customer confidence and increase
the likelihood that consumers will choose beef when making
meal decisions.
As beef cattle producers who care about the beef industry
and take pride in the food that we produce, it is important
to produce a quality, consistent product that is safe and
wholesome. Some of the basic management steps involved in
producing quality beef is having an effective herd health
program in place, managing the feedstuffs and feed additives
used in the operation, and developing animal care and handling
practices that minimize stress on the animals. These production
practices are outlined in the process of BQA certification.
