Applying for Financial Aid

1st Steps to Receive Financial Aid

The FAFSA is the federal government’s application to determine financial aid eligibility for most types of financial aid. Begin the application process now.

First apply for a FSA ID. You will need a FSA ID to electronically sign your FAFSA. If you are a dependent student, your parents should also apply for a FSA ID so they can electronically sign your FAFSA.

You can complete the FAFSA (and the Renewal FAFSA) electronically by going to studentaid.gov. Our Federal School Code (for the FAFSA) is 003932.

You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) Information Acknowledgement in the mail about 2 weeks after submitting your online FAFSA. If you provided your e-mail address you will receive an e-mail with a link to your SAR on the Web in no more than 5 days. Review your SAR and make sure the information is correct. You can make corrections to your data online at studentaid.gov. Please feel free to contact our office for concerns or problems with the electronic filing of the FAFSA.

Next Steps

You must be accepted to the University of Wyoming before your financial aid eligibility is determined.

The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid will be notifying you either by a targeted message on your WyoWeb account or by e-mail (please have a current email address on file) regarding your awards and/or requirements. This may take two to three weeks.

Financial aid awards are based on full time attendance which is defined as 12 hours for undergraduate and Pharmacy students, and 9 hours for graduate and Law students.

Students who are enrolled for less than full time hours at the end of drop/add period will have their budget and financial aid awards adjusted accordingly. Please feel free to contact our office with questions concerning this policy.

To receive federal financial aid you must meet conditions and provide documentation if requested to do so. View these requirements.

If you see unsatisfied requirements, you may have been selected for verification.

Packaging of Financial Aid

The policy of the University of Wyoming, in packaging financial aid, is to provide the resources needed to help fund a student's education and to ensure that a degree program will be completed; to minimize the adverse effects of financial concerns on academic performance; and to make maximum use of all financial aid funds available to the institution.  Furthermore, it is the policy of the University of Wyoming to provide every student with the most advantageous combination of financial aid funds for which he/she qualifies, subject to availability of funds under the respective programs. To this end, financial aid packages should not exceed cost of attendance (except in rare circumstances reviewed on a case by case basis where the student is receiving only scholarships).
