Through interactive collaboration with students and campus partners, the Disability Support Services Office facilitates academic access at the University of Wyoming. We extend support to students with disabilities, offering tailored accommodations and services. Beyond our student-centric focus, we actively engage with the broader university community, educating staff, faculty, and students on the importance of accessibility and inclusion.
The University of Wyoming Disability Support Services (DSS) offers an innovative AIM portal designed to streamline communication and accommodation management for students, faculty, and staff. This user-friendly platform allows students to easily connect with coordinators, apply for and manage their accommodations, and access essential resources. Faculty and staff also benefit from the AIM portal through a dedicated login, enabling them to efficiently oversee and support the accommodations process. By providing tailored logins for students and staff, the AIM portal ensures a seamless, accessible, and organized approach to disability support, enhancing the educational experience for all members of the university community.
Registering for services and meeting with a coordinator is easy. Fill out our Registration form by clicking the link below. After you register, we will follow up with you on next steps. If you have any documentation, you are welcome to attach that to your registration form, send it directly to our office at udss@uwyo.edu, or deliver to Knight Hall 109.
Accommodations are determined through an individualized and interactive process. We focus on barriers (not diagnosis) that impact a student’s ability to learn or access services at the University of Wyoming. Our office approves accommodations related to housing, classroom, and other campus supports. We collaborate with faculty in the administration of course exams with accommodations. Our testing team can answer questions related to exam accommodations for in-person exams.
Once you register, we will send you an email within 3 business days with next steps. You will then know who your coordinator will be and how to schedule a meeting. During that meeting your coordinator will discuss your course schedule, potential accommodations and any additional information that is needed.
Your coordinator will then work with you to create a tailored accommodation plan for you and your courses. They will also work with you to communicate this plan to your faculty. Throughout the semester, we will send out information and reminders to you, and you are always welcome to check in with your coordinator with questions or if you need any other support. While you only need to register once, you will need to renew accommodations each semester.
Accommodations do not automatically roll-over semester to semester. Students must connect with their coordinator to re-issue accommodation letters each semester. Students looking to change or update their accommodations will need to connect with their DSS coordinator.
Documentation is paperwork from a medical professional that provides verification of a disability and its impacts. Documentation is used to support the individualized process and determination of reasonable accommodations by providing details of past accommodations or current diagnostic outcomes to our coordinators. DSS will review and consider all pieces of documentation submitted. Reviewing documentation is a collaborative process and is handled on a case-to-case basis. The eligibility determination process is not a same-day process. Once documentation is uploaded, it will be reviewed in order of receipt; therefore, it is recommended that documentation be submitted well in advance of any accommodation related needs. Typically, documentation is processed and the student will be notified within a few business days of receipt.
Documentation is important, but not required to begin a conversation with our office. If you are working to get documentation, we still encourage you to register with our office. We can then talk through next steps, potential accommodations, and what specific information we will need to implement services. We understand it may be difficult for you to obtain disability documentation for registration. Please know that this is no cause to delay reaching out to our office. We are here to work with you.
There are multiple ways to provide Disability Support Services with documentation of your disability. Documentation should provide proof of diagnosis and/or prior accommodations. DSS follows the guidance from the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) on documentation review and accommodation approval. Documentation should be uploaded by the student to the AIM Portal during registration or emailed to your coordinator.
