Following on previous INBREs, the long-term goal of WY INBRE-5 is to establish and sustain a statewide network for biomedical research and excellence. The Specific Aims of the program are to: 1) build on the established multi-disciplinary research network that will strengthen biomedical research expertise, education, and infrastructure at the University of Wyoming (UW) and its partner CCs; 2) provide a Student Research Program (SRP) for Wyoming undergraduate students that will increase interest and enrollment in academic programs and opportunities to continue in biomedical and health science education and research careers within IDeA states; 3) build and increase the research base and capacity of UW and its partner institutions by providing research support to faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students; and 4) Expand Wyoming research opportunities across other IDeA programs and the IDeA Western Region. REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS: Wyoming Community College-University of Wyoming 2025 INBRE Transition Student Program - This progam offers competitive awards for outstanding community college life science students who are transferring to the University of Wyoming to pursue careers in the biomedical sciences and/or allied health fields. FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: 2025 Wyoming INBRE 5 Student Research Program (SRP) Collaborative Research Project Grant Competition - WY INBRE requests proposals from WY Community College & UW faculty. The goal of this program is to support research projects that engage University and Community College researchers and students in projects that provide rigorous research experience for students and have potential to produce publishable results and develop into fundable programs at NIH and other federal agencies. EXPANDED EDITING SERVICES: The Wyoming INBRE is pleased to announce the expansion of our scientific editing services. This service is now freely available to faculty seeking to improve their extramural grant and peer-reviewed manuscript submissions, with the goal of improving outcomes and increasing success rates and competitiveness. This service is geared mainly toward improving the clarity, accuracy, consistency, and grammar of written documents but may also include some evaluation of the underlying science and conclusions. FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: 2024 Wyoming NIH INBRE Pilot Project Type 1 (PP-1) - The PP-1 mechanism is open to tenured and tenure-track biomedical, research-active faculty at all career stages. PP-1 grants may serve one of the following intended purposes. (1) PP-1 funding is available to promising early-stage principal investigators (PIs) in cases where (higher-level) INBRE Research Projects (RPs) might be considered premature due to the stage of the project or the investigator’s background. (2) PP-1 funding is also targeted to well-qualified early-stage or established PIs who are branching out into new areas of biomedical research. (3) PP-1 funds may be used as a bridging-type mechanism to support highly productive PIs who may be between grants. Note: justification conditions apply for intended purposes 2 & 3. OCTOBER 3-5, 2024: Wyoming INBRE Network Fall Retreat - The Retreat will include tours and activities on the UW main campus for visiting students from the community colleges & UW-Casper, as well as presentations from the students on their current research projects. The Retreat offers a chance for visitors to network with their peers from across Wyoming and for students to see what it might look like to take the next step into a future career in biomedical research.
