Melissa Ballengee Alexander serves as the Carl M. Williams Professor of Law & Ethics at the University of Wyoming College of Law. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and Yale University. After law school, Professor Alexander clerked for the Honorable John G. Heyburn, II of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. She then practiced law with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP for more than a decade, earning partnership and an AV-Preeminent Martindale Hubbell rating. Professor Alexander joined the law faculty at the University of Wyoming College of Law in 2015 after several years on the faculty of Belmont University College of Law. She has more than a decade of experience teaching courses on Health Law, Bioethics, Intellectual Property, and Civil Procedure. Professor Alexander is the recipient of a law-school wide teaching award and has published extensively on health law and policy, often focusing on health equity, health economics, and realizing autonomy. In addition to numerous law review articles, Prof. Alexander is co-author of Questions & Answers: Health Law (Carolina Aca. Press 2024).
Teaching: Professor Alexander currently teaches Health Law, Intellectual Property, Civil Procedure II, and either Public Health Law or Bioethics (alternating annually). She has previously taught Global Health and Human Rights and Civil Pretrial Practice.
