The Doctor of Pharmacy / MBA program takes five years to complete – four years of Pharmacy studies and one year of MBA core courses. Students spend their first year in the MBA program completing the core curriculum and other program requirements. The next four years will encompass the traditional Pharm. D. curriculum. Students completing this program will earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a Master of Business Administration degree.
The applicant must notify both Colleges that he or she is applying for the dual PharmD/MBA program, and must be admitted by each College to participate. To remain in the dual degree program, the student must comply with the minimum performance standards of both the College of Pharmacy and the College of Business.
There has been an increase in professional degree program enrollments over the years, this is no news and PharmD programs are no exception. With a higher number of graduates entering the job market, it has become saturated. Elite programs have recognized this effect on supply and demand and have implemented PharmD dual degree programs. The PharmD/MBA program at UW provides students the ability to gain both credentials upon graduation and become a desirable candidate when entering the competitive job market. Not only are students provided with the pharmacy skill, they are also well-versed in real-world application of business theory and practices.
Students admitted to the 1-Year Early Career MBA and any of the full-time dual degree programs will complete the following core curriculum courses:
MBAM 5101 MBA Foundations. 1.
MBAM 5107 Executive Leadership I. 1.
MBAM 5202 Business Analytics. 3.
MBAM 5207 Marketing Management. 3.
MBAM 5204 Financial Management. 3.
MBAM 5208 Accounting for Managers. 3.
MBAM 5209 Executive Leadership II. 1.
MBAM 5330 Global Business Environment. 3.
MBAM 5104 Organizational Behavior and HRM. 3.

"The U.S. pharmacy job market is highly competitive. A PharmD will signal to employers that I possess the technical abilities to perform my job, but the UW MBA is what will differentiate me from other job candidates. In addition to creating a fundamental understanding of business, the MBA program provides invaluable experiential learning opportunities, which improve managerial and leadership skills. I hope to leverage the attributes gained from the UW MBA program with the technical skill of the PharmD degree in order to pursue a leadership role within the pharmaceutical industry."
