The University of Wyoming has appointed Robert Macy as the new director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI).

With a distinguished career that spans academia and entrepreneurship, Macy is poised to lead the CEI in its mission to foster an entrepreneurial mindset across the UW campus.

Macy, a native of Seattle, comes to UW with a rich background in entrepreneurship, law and education. Holding both a law degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, he previously served in leadership and faculty roles at Pennsylvania State University, New Mexico State University and the University of Central Florida.

Macy’s experience as an entrepreneur for over 30 years -- combined with his advisory roles in venture capital funds, legal counsel for startups, and his creative work as a television and movie producer -- positions him uniquely to guide the CEI, UW President Ed Seidel says.

“I am thrilled to welcome Robert Macy, who brings a comprehensive blend of academic, venture capital and creative industry experience to UW,” Seidel says. “His expertise is key to the success of the CEI and supporting our mission to connect theory with practice and enhance innovation and entrepreneurial endeavors that serve the state of Wyoming.”

Macy’s background encompasses significant achievements in academia, where he has been pivotal in developing programs focused on corporate innovation and entrepreneurship, alongside contributions to entertainment management. His expertise not only spans the realms of venture capital and legal advisory for startups, but also extends into the creative industries as a producer. This blend of experience underscores Macy's capability to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, promising a robust direction for the CEI.

The CEI is dedicated to coordinating, collaborating, promoting and strengthening entrepreneurial and innovation learning at UW. Its goal is to support and impact all units and organizations within UW’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, making the university a leader in innovation with partnerships throughout the state and across the United States.

Under Macy’s leadership, the CEI aims to be a pivotal force in driving innovation and entrepreneurship at UW and beyond.
