June Etta Downey (1875-1932) was an American Psychologist who studied personality
and handwriting. She was the first woman in the United State to chair a department
at a university. She wrote 7 books and over 70 articles during her life-time. As if
her scholarly work wasn't enough, she also wrote poetry and wrote the University of
Wyoming alma mater. She was a true pioneer for women in science and the arts. The
Downey scholarship was established to honor June Downey and to support the scholarship
of researchers in the Psychology Department.
