Scholarships Awarded in WyoScholarships

WyoScholarships is the UW scholarship system. There are three types of applications within WyoScholarships:

  1. General Application - a short, 3-question application that should be completed annually.
  2. Conditional Application - this is sometimes required by a department/college to gather additional details about students within certain majors or areas of study.
  3. Apply-to Scholarships - these scholarships have donor criteria that is more specific than what your student records provide, so students must submit a separate application to be considered. If no students apply, those scholarship funds are left unspent, which is not the donor's intent!

Determine what applications you should complete within WyoScholarships from the following student categories:

Students with renewing Commitments:

Completing the General Application is required annually for any student receiving a renewing Commitment (a financial pledge) because your response to this application, along with your student records, will allow us to find and award scholarships to fulfill your Commitment each year.

After submitting the General Application, you may be prompted in the system to complete a Conditional Application. This additional application may help you qualify to receive a scholarship that will also be used to fulfill your Commitment.

You may also review any recommended scholarship in WyoScholarships that requires an application (apply-to scholarship). Due to the donor's criteria, we are unable to match eligible students without this additional application. If awarded, such a scholarship will also be used to fulfill your Commitment.

Students without renewing Commitments:

Completing the General Application annually is important as your response to this application, along with your student records, may open opportunities for a UW department/college or our office to award a scholarship if you meet the necessary criteria.

After submitting the General Application, you may be prompted in the system to complete a Conditional Application. This additional application may help you qualify to receive a scholarship through that particular department/college.

You may also review any recommended scholarship in WyoScholarships that requires an application (apply-to scholarship). Most scholarships for Graduate level students fall into this category. Due to the donor's criteria, we are unable to match eligible students without this additional application.

Visit the website for more information on renewal opportunities for your Commitment or scholarship aid.

If you are selected to receive a scholarship within WyoScholarships, here are some important things to know:

  • You will be notified via your UW email to accept your scholarship offer. We strongly encourage you to complete a donor thank you letter if prompted to express gratitude to those who made this scholarship possible.

  • Scholarship eligibility rules may vary dependent on the individual scholarship, which is outlined in the WyoScholarships description. You must remain qualified to receive the scholarship. If an enrollment requirement is not listed, the university standard will apply (minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduate and 9 credit hours for most graduate programs). The administering college/department may use their own discretion should selected students not be enrolled full-time.

External Scholarships

External scholarships are developed and funded by organizations external to UW. They’re available to the public and can potentially help students cover the costs of their education and education-related expenses. Student eligibility rules are created by the organization offering the scholarship and can depend on many factors. If you are a student who has been awarded an external scholarship or are a donor/organization that is funding an external scholarship, please review the External Scholarships page for more information.
