Each year Family Weekend offers families an opportunity to share in the UW experience and spend time with their own special student. Parents, grandparents, siblings, and other family members of currently enrolled UW students are invited to visit the UW-Laramie campus for an event-packed, memory-making weekend! Family Weekend is hosted by the Student Success and Graduation Hub. The hub exists to maximize student support and programming, personalized to their needs. All UW students have access to a support system that includes academic advising, therapeutic counseling, engagement, leadership development, mentoring, tutoring, developmental workshops and most of all – a sense of belonging.
Our 2024 schedule has been finalized! This year, we are offering two different exciting packages for our UW families -- tailored to families who can choose between three and four-day weekends, and both with discounted options for children ages 3-12. Take a look at the schedule of events, choose which package your family would like to participate in, and then join us for a weekend of exploration, good old-fashioned UW fun, and most imortantly, spending time with your UW student!
3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Check In: Parents, check in at the Student Success and Graduation Hub on the Old Main Green and grab your materials, swag, and tickets for the week! Join us for an early dinner, play yard games, enjoy food, and meet other parents and families.
5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. “Oktoberfest” with Wind River Brewing: Families come check out “Oktoberfest” with Austin from Wind River Brewing. Attendees 21 and older enjoy a sampling of Wind River Brewing's selection and a free beer. Learn the history of Wind River Brewing and how their Oktoberfest beers are made. Attendees younger than 21 receive a free root beer or soda. All attendees will enjoy a spread of delicious snacks provided by SS&G.
7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. UW Symphony Concert: Enjoy the sweet sounds of the UW Symphony. Join us for a fine symphony concert and exclusive meet-and-greet with UW Conductor Dr. Michael Grifith and musicians. Families can indulge in appetizers and delicious beverages including mocktails for those under the age of 21. Cocktail hour attire encouraged.
9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Cowboy Create: Check out the state-of-the-art makerspace in the Enzi Stem Education building. Create your own one-of-a-kind art piece or wood working project including jewelry, customized drinkware and cutting boards.
11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Open House: Stop by the SS&G Hub and Enjoy a fabulous charcuterie spread provided by The Grazing Cowboy. Play yard games, enjoy food, and meet other parents and families.
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Pokes Pub Mix and Mingle: It’s time to mix it up! Gather in the basement of the Union at Pokes Pub for a free refreshing root beer or soda. (Attendees 21 and up enjoy an alcoholic drink.) Parents and families attending Family Weekend will come together to mingle and interact through a variety of activities run by the Cowboy Coaches from SS&G.
8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Union After Dark: Enjoy the family friendly atmosphere of Union After Dark from 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Live music from Saltwater Sky, food, and swing dancing with all of campus. Don't forget those dancing shoes! Family Weekend participants are invited to an exclusive early event with the Cowboy Country Swing Club to learn line dances and country swing moves.
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Tailgate at Pete’s Party Lawn & Music: Get in the zone for UW’s 2024 Family Game! Food and drinks are provided in the covered tent. Live music from Saltwater Sky. Tailgate attendees can enter into a raffle for 4 football tickets, 4 sideline game passes and a tour of the UW High Altitude Performance Center!
1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. UW Football Game vs. SDSU* (Tickets available separately): Wear your UW Family Weekend gear and watch the UW Cowboys take on the SDSU Aztecs! The game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Join us in the UW Family Weekend section. Remember to bring layers. Wyoming weather can change in an instant. Tickets available for purchase. 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Watch Party and Mingle at Pokes Pub: Don’t want to go to the football game, but still want the chance to connect with other families? Join us for a watch party and mingle at Pokes Pub in the lower level of the Union.
2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Homecoming Game Kick Off: *Football tickets are available for a discount when you go to gowyo.com/promocode and use code FAMILYWEEKEND
7:00 UW Volleyball Game* (Tickets available separately): Cheer on the UW Cowgirls in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Presidents Brunch: Sit down and enjoy breakfast with President Seidel in the Yellowstone Ballroom. Learn about the Parent of the Year nominees, celebrate the 2024 Parent of the Year recipient, and enter to win raffles including a chance to win free tuition for your student for the spring. As a reminder, your student must be present to win. Business casual attire is encouraged.
12:00 p.m. UW Cowgirls Soccer Game* (Tickets available separately): Cheer on the UW Cowgirl Soccer team!

As part of Family Weekend, the Student Success and Graduation Hub is proud to recognize the Parent of the Year awardee during Family Weekend. Nominees for this award are submitted by UW students, who want to share how great their parent(s) or guardian(s) are. Students are required to write and submit an essay to ssgraduation@uwyo.edu explaining why their parent(s) or guardian(s) are deserving. The Student Success Hub will review all nominees and notify the winner by Aug. 26 so travel arrangements can be made -- we’d love to see the big winners at Family Weekend! If seeing your student wasn’t already enough, then winning free tuition for their spring semester might be an added incentive to join us during Family Weekend. The Student Success and Graduation Hub will be raffling off the following big-ticket items over the weekend. Winners must be present at the event in order to receive prizes.
