In working towards the University’s goals of responsible environmental stewardship and community development, the Fuel Efficient and Low Emitting Vehicle Parking Program is available to faculty, staff and students. Approximately 66 percent of students, faculty and staff commute to campus in individual vehicles. The “LE” parking permit encourages the use of these automobiles through preferred parking in designated University lots. Additionally, this program helps UW meet its commitment to build all new campus construction equal to the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver standard. Recent construction projects at the University of Wyoming have had a goal of attaining Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.
LEED is a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to evaluate the design and construction of a building according to five environmental categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality. Additional credit is given for innovative features and focusing on regional priorities. Alternative transportation such as low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles reduce pollution and the land development impacts from their use.
A free University of Wyoming “LE” permit must be obtained and displayed in order to parking in “LE” spaces at the Visual Arts building.
The “LE” permit must be displayed in conjunction with a valid permit for the area.
To qualify for a free “LE” permit, a vehicle must be ranked by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) as having a score of 40 or greater. Please contact the Transportation Services office via email or phone to see if your vehicle qualifies or view the current spreadsheet with all qualifying vehicles. Information on the methodology used in scoring vehicles can be found at www.greenercars.org.
“LE” permits can only be displayed on qualifying vehicles, that is, permits cannot be switched between vehicles.
Patrons may only park in spaces where their current UW parking permit is valid.
To obtain an “LE” permit, please bring your vehicle and registration to the Transportation Services main office.
