University of Wyoming Calendar for Dec. 2

These are among the activities scheduled Dec. 2-8 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Dec. 2, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents a Brazilian two-piano concert in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Brazilian pianists Carlos Costa and Jessica Pacheco-Hjelmstad will perform. Free.

Tuesday, Dec. 3, 7 p.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “December’s Night Sky” in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for non-students. Tickets for children under age 5 are free. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 12:10-12:50 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” a gallery walk-through of the UW Visual Arts Department Faculty Exhibition. The walk-through will feature faculty members from the UW Department of Visual Arts. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. Air Force Academy, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 8 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Club Events Committee will host retro soul band Southern Avenue in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Original roots music group Stillhouse Junkies is the opening act. Free.

Thursday, Dec. 5, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. -- The UW College of Engineering and Applied Science will host its 2019 Senior Design Symposium in the Wyoming Union. Over 45 projects will be presented by students from various engineering and applied science disciplines. Free.

Thursday, Dec. 5, 6 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will present the “Lighting of the Trees” reception at the museum. The evening will include the start of a silent auction, as well as musical performances. Free.

Thursday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. -- The UW Department of Visual Arts presents Jean Robertson, a professor at Indiana University’s Herron School of Art and Design. She will give an art history talk in the UW Visual Arts Building, Room 111. Free.

Thursday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO will host Open Mic Night with Mady Lundblad in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Dec. 5-Saturday, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance will present the musical comedy “How to Survive Your Family at Christmas” on the Performing Arts main stage. Tickets cost $14 for the public, $11 for senior citizens and $7 for students. Thursday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Symphony Orchestra will perform “Brazilian Surprises” in the Performing Arts concert hall. Friday, Dec. 6, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Fall Seminar Series presents David Harvey, a postdoctoral research associate in the UW Department of Anthropology. He will discuss “Habitat Destruction, Settlement Systems and Territorial Maintenance in the Southern Sierra Nevada, California” in the UW Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Friday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “Aboriginal Skies” in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for non-students. Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Collegiate Chorale will perform its annual candlelight concert at Laramie’s St. Matthew’s Cathedral. This year’s theme is “The Deepening Light.” Tickets cost $20 for the public and $10 for senior citizens and students. Friday, Dec. 6, 8 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment will host Pokes’ Carnival: UW Floats 2 in the Wyoming Union. The end-of-semester event will include a magician, crafts, cookie decorating and games, as well as a showing of “It: Chapter Two.” Free.   

Saturday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host Happy Holidays Laramie Festival of Trees. The annual event will include dance and musical performances by local choral groups, student musicians and dance companies. Families are invited to enjoy cookies and punch while creating ornaments, cards and other holiday decorations. New this year is a pop-up art market featuring local artist Tara Pappas. The event also celebrates the opening of the holiday exhibition of artwork by Albany County schoolchildren, which will be on view through Saturday, Dec. 21. Free.

Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “A Special Star” in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for non-students.
