Philip Treick, chief investment officer of the University of Wyoming Foundation, will speak with Master of Business Administration (MBA) students Friday, April 23.
A Wyoming native, Treick has extensive financial asset management experience that includes portfolio management, energy finance and financial analysis. He also is an academic professional lecturer in the UW College of Business, where he instructs two undergraduate portfolio management classes where students manage capital of nearly $3 million.
His career began in 1987 as a financial analyst in the Public Finance Department at Raymond James. Following that, he worked as a generalist for Transamerica Corp., where he was an equity trader. Treick spent 11 years at Transamerica analyzing and investing in sectors such as software, insurance, media and entertainment, and various technology sectors.
Treick was awarded a Lipper Certificate for the top-performing small capitalization mutual fund in 1998. The following year, he joined Robert Day, founder of Trust Company of the West, in forming a partnership to manage Day’s family office assets.
He later launched a long/short tangible asset partnership to capitalize on hard asset investments in global public equities. That strategy grew to include a partnership with Paul Stephens and his family office, based in San Francisco, to focus on resource income investments. The business, known as Real Assets Income Funds, merged with Tocqueville Asset Management in May 2016.
Treick has an undergraduate finance degree from the University of South Florida after spending his first three years at UW.
