Wyoming Baroque Presents The Golem at UW Oct. 4

Wyoming Baroque will present “The Golem” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in the University of Wyoming’s Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts choral rehearsal room. The performance is free and open to the public.

The ensemble will perform a new soundtrack to the 1920 classic silent film “The Golem: How He Came into the World” as it screens at the same time. Wyoming Baroque music director Mark Bergman composed the soundtrack. Sometimes called the world’s first horror movie, German actor and director Paul Wegener’s film was a milestone in cinematic storytelling.

The Wyoming Baroque soundtrack features instruments that are consistent with those used at the time of the film’s setting in the 1600s. The soundtrack’s language employs diverse elements from the Baroque era through the present time.

Wyoming Baroque is composed of Bergman, violone; Stacey Brady and David Wilson, Baroque violin; Marta Howard, Baroque viola; Barbara Krumdieck, Baroque cello; and Frank Nowell, harpsichord.

The ensemble brings together nationally known artists specializing in historically informed performances of 17th and 18th century repertoire as well as contemporary compositions featuring instruments built to the same specifications. The ensemble is in residence at Sheridan College and performs at the Whitney Center for the Arts.

Committed to education and arts advocacy throughout the region, Wyoming Baroque members will teach a master class and lead a workshop with UW students while on campus.
