State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
The Los Angeles Times quoted UW psychology Professor Matt Gray, who offered insights on how a person copes with accidentally harming another individual. The op-ed piece focused on actor Alec Baldwin, who fired a prop gun last week while filming a movie, killing the film’s cinematographer and injuring the director.
UW Associate Professor Kevin Monteith and his team have been studying Snowy Range moose and how well the animals adapt to heat, according to a Casper Star-Tribune feature. Monteith, the Wyoming Excellence Chair in UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, says that water is a critical component to staving off heat exhaustion in moose.
Crypto Reporter noted that Elite Mining Inc. (EMI), one of the top five blockchain startups that are reducing energy requirements, has moved its headquarters to Cheyenne. EMI is working with UW’s Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation to host and mentor interns.
UW’s Chad Baldwin, associate vice president for communications and marketing; Associated Students of UW President Hunter Swilling; and Associate Professor Linda Thunstrom were interviewed for a Laramie Boomerang article titled “Incentives give UW vaccine programs a shot in the arm.”
The Las Vegas Review-Journal cited a UW mule deer migration study for an article on how mule deer migration patterns offer useful information for hunters.
The Waco Tribune-Herald published a Money article noting the shortage of cafeteria workers at many colleges. UW’s lack of bus drivers was included in the article.
Sheridan Media published UW’s release announcing that several administrative changes and searches are underway or in the planning stage at the university.
A review of the history of sage grouse hunting and populations across the Intermountain West shows that declines in the bird’s numbers have prompted significant reductions in hunting opportunities in recent decades with mixed results for grouse populations. Sheridan Media published UW’s study.
The Saratoga Sun reported that five UW students in the Science Initiative Roadshow presented workshops to Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School students. The program brings STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) workshops around the state.
The Wyoming Center on Aging, located at UW, is offering a free online workshop for individuals with chronic conditions and their caregivers. The Cody Enterprise published UW’s release.
High Plains Journal published an article on how UW researchers are exploring whether sunn hemp, a typically Southern crop, can be grown in Wyoming.

The Laramie Boomerang reported that a random 3 percent sample of on-campus UW students and employees is being tested each week for COVID-19 as part of the university’s COVID-19 response.
Graduates of the Wyoming-WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) Medical Education Program at UW have returned to the Cowboy State to begin medical careers. The Sheridan Press published UW’s feature release on the subject.
