Active threats can happen anywhere and any time.  Here you can find resources to be better prepared should you find yourself in an active threat situation.

The Department of Homeland Security defines an active threat as: "an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area, in most cases, active shooters use firearm(s) and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims."

Should there ever be an active threat on campus, students, faculty and staff will be notified via the UW Alert System.  UW Alert is a a text messaging notification system designed to keep students, faculty, and staff informed during emergencies.  Sign up for UW Alert.

To request an in person training on active threat response, please send us an email at uwpd@uwyo.edu. For information on our current Active Shooter Instructors, please visit our Instructors page.

For information on Community Response Training Information and opportunities, please visit our Community Response page.

To see how the University of Wyoming Police Department prepares for an active threat situation, please visit our Department Training page.
