Shepard Symposium on Social Justice

Honoring the work of the Shepard family and the memory of their son, Matthew Shepard, a UW student and social activist, the symposium works as a living reminder of the need for information and dialogue about social justice concerns in America and beyond. An annual event at the University of Wyoming since 1997, the Shepard Symposium has evolved from a College of Education seminar into a major national conference, seeking to engage participants in discussion and analyses of strategies and actions that can eliminate social inequality. The Symposium on Social Justice strives to reach a broad audience of community members (on and off campus), as well as regional and national groups of participants.

The Good Mule Project

An event series at UW that fosters a community of dialogue and action around issues of multiculturalism and diversity through the lens of social justice activism. The Good Mule Project’s name recognizes the steadfast and resilient nature of the mule. Communities face vast and complex issues and are in need of individuals with personal stories, ideas, and talents to be committed to the continual process required of creating positive change. The Good Mule Project seeks to impart the nature of the mule onto such individuals.
