SAP Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I not eligible for Financial Aid?

SAP policy can be viewed online at SAP Policy. You can view the reason you are not meeting SAP by logging into WyoRecords from WyoWeb.

Can I receive Financial Aid while I am not meeting SAP?

No, you cannot receive federal financial aid if your status is “Not Eligible.” You can appeal your status by submitting a SAP Appeal Form to request to have your aid reinstated. Appeals are not guaranteed.

How do I appeal?

Your SAP Appeal must include the following before it will be submitted to the SAP committee:

  1. SAP Appeal form – due by the end of drop/add period for the term.

  2. Academic Plan – this form will be completed by you and your academic advisor (page 2 of the appeal form).

  3. Supporting documentation (supporting reasons for appeal)

  4. Your signature certifying you understand the policy and procedures for appeal.

Your appeal will be reviewed by the SAP Appeals Committee. Please allow 10 business days to process your appeal.

What happens if my SAP Appeal is approved?

If your SAP appeal is approved, you will be placed on Financial Aid Probation and will be granted one additional semester of financial aid. After Probation, the student must be making SAP or successfully following their Academic Plan.

What happens if my SAP Appeal is denied?

If your SAP appeal is denied, you will remain “Not Eligible” and you will not be able to receive federal financial aid until the SAP policy requirements have once again been met. You may speak with a private lender to determine possible loan eligibility: Private Loans

How do I regain financial aid eligibility?

If a student loses federal financial aid eligibility due to not meeting SAP standards or the appeal was denied, they can regain eligibility in one of the following ways:

  1. Completing courses using their own resources that will satisfy the deficient SAP area.

  2. Taking a minimum of 2 classes, 6 hours, no fails, no withdrawals and grades of “C” or better on their own. If successful, they can appeal for the next term.

How will I be notified of the appeal decision?

You will be notified via your official UW email when the SAP Appeal Committee has reached a decision on your appeal.

Keep in Mind:

The SAP Appeal Committee will work expeditiously to review your SAP Appeal, however, the appeal decision may not be available until after classes have begun for the appeal semester. You are responsible for payment of all UW tuition and fees regardless of the outcome of the appeal.
